UCLA SHUTS DOWN OREGON SCHOOLS ย ย
The Bruins dominated the scoresheet in a pair of victories over the Oregon schools last week, beating the Beavers, 6-0, and downing the Ducks, 4-0. Over the two games, UCLA outshot its opponents, 65-3, and had a 27-0 advantage in shots on goal. In the Bruins' win over Oregon State, six different players scored goals - Emma Egizii, Jayden Perry, Lexi Wright, Reilyn Turner, Ally Lemos and America Frias. Against Oregon, however, it was mostly the Reilyn Turner show, as the senior forward recorded her third career hat trick. Egizii added the fourth goal, her second of the week. ย ย

TURNER NAMED PAC-12 OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK ย ย
Senior forward Reilyn Turner earned her first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week honor of the year and third of her career after she totaled four goals and one assist in two weekend wins over the Oregon schools. Turner recorded the third hat trick of her career in a 4-0 win over Oregon on Oct. 8, and in the Bruins' 6-0 win over Oregon State on Oct. 5, Turner recorded one goal and one assist. ย  ย

TURNING OVER THE RECORD BOOKSย
After her four-goal, one-assist weekend, Reilyn Turner moved into fifth place on UCLA's career goals list with 39 and into seventh on the career points list with 92. She also moved into a tie for sixth place for career game-winning goals with 14 and into sole possession of third place with three career hat tricks, behind only Traci Arkenberg and Sydney Leroux. This season, Turner leads the team in scoring with 19 points and is tied for the team lead in goals (seven) and assists (five). She has secured a fourth consecutive year with double-digit point totals. ย ย

NO SHOT AGAINST BRUIN DEFENSE ย ย
UCLA has held opponents to single-digit shots in 11 of the team's 12 games and limited its last two opponents to a total of just three shots. The Bruins' lockdown defense, which has a team goals against average of 0.58, starts goalkeeper Neeku Purcell, center backs Lilly Reale and Jayden Perry and outside backs Quincy McMahon and Ayo Oke. The Bruins have totaled eight shutouts this season, including three in a row. ย  ย ย

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME ย ย
The Bruins enter this week's game unbeaten in their last 19 games at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. UCLA's last home loss came on Nov. 12, 2021, meaning Margueritte Aozasa has never lost a home game as Bruin head coach. During the unbeaten home streak, UCLA is 18-0-1 with 13 shutouts, including four in a row. This season, the Bruins have outscored their opponents at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, 20-1. They have also outshot opponents at home by a 138-16 count. ย  ย  ย

ROLLING IN THE DEEP ย ย
UCLA's strength lies in its depth. The Bruins have 13 players who have scored goals this season, led by a pair of seven-goal scorers in Reilyn Turner and Ally Cook. No game displayed UCLA's depth more than the Oregon State contest on Oct. 5 when six different Bruin players scored a goal and all 22 players on the active roster reached double-digits in minutes played. ย  ย  ย

PK PERFECT ย ย
UCLA has taken a program record and nation-leading eight penalty kicks already this season and has yet to miss on one. Jayden Perry leads the team with three penalty kick goals, followed by Sunshine Fontes, who has two. Reilyn Turner, Emma Egizii and America Frias have made one each. ย  ย ย

NATIONAL LEADERS
UCLA ranks in the Top 10 in the nation in penalty kicks (1st - 8), shots per game (2nd - 21.25), W-L-T percentage (4th - 0.917), scoring offense (5th - 3.00), goal differential (6th - 9) and shutout percentage (7th - 0.667). The Bruins' current eight-game winning streak is the second-longest active streak in the nation, behind only Lamar's 10-game win streak. ย  ย

ALLY IS COOKIN'ย
Graduate forward Ally Cook is tied with Reilyn Turner for the team lead in goals scored with seven. The Bruin duo also rank tied for fourth in the Pac-12. The Coto de Caza, Calif. native has totaled 12 goals as a Bruin since transferring from the University of Oregon in 2022. She scored 17 goals as a Duck, and her total of 29 career goals ranks second on the Bruin team behind only Reilyn Turner's 39 career goals. Cook has earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and has been named to both the Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News Teams of the Week once. ย  ย  ย ย

MCMAHON MAKES HISTORYย
Junior Quincy McMahon made history last week, becoming the first defender ever to win Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors three straight weeks (Sept. 18, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2). She also became one of just three players in Pac-12 history to win a weekly award in three consecutive weeks. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

FONTES OUT FOR SEASON ย
Graduate midfielder Sunshine Fontes suffered an ACL injury on Sept. 28 at Washington, prematurely ending her season. Fontes finishes the year with five goals and 11 points in just nine games. She scored three goals in the win over Long Beach State on Sept. 7, moving up to No. 3 on UCLA's all-time list for career hat tricks with two. The 2022 All-Pacific Region and All-Pac-12 honoree finishes with 21 goals, 13 assists and 55 points in her career. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

IN THE RANKINGS
UCLA remained at No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the fourth-straight week but has moved up one for a second-straight week to No. 2 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll. ย  ย

SCOUTING THE UTES
Utah enters the week with a 5-4-5 record overall and is 1-2-2 in conference play. The Utes are 1-1-1 in their last three games and have a 4-2 win over Oregon, a 1-1 tie against Cal and a close 1-0 loss to Stanford in those three games. Katie O'Kane leads the Utes with seven goals and 15 points and is joined in double-digit scoring by Taliana Kaufusi, who has five goal and 11 points. The Utes are coached by Hideki Nakada, who coached with UCLA head coach Margueritte Aozasa at Stanford. ย ย

THE SERIES WITH UTAH
UCLA is unbeaten in its last six matchups against Utah and won last season in Salt Lake City, 3-0, on goals by Lexi Wright, Sofia Cook and Ally Cook. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie the last time they played in Los Angeles in Fall 2021. During the 2020-21 season, Reilyn Turner scored both goals in the Bruins' 2-0 win at Utah. The Utes last beat the Bruins in Salt Lake City in 2016.

FOR LOVE OF COUNTRY
Several Bruins spent the offseason playing for their respective national teams in tournaments around the world. Head coach Margueritte Aozasa coached the U.S. Under-23 team at the Thorns Preseason Tournament in March in Portland, Oregon, and was joined by players Lilly Reale, Quincy McMahon, Sunshine Fontes, Reilyn Turner, Neeku Purcell and Ayo Oke. In May, Ally Lemos and Sofia Cook played for the U.S., and Val Vargas played for Mexico at the 2023 Concacaf Under-20 Championships in the Dominican Republic. With Vargas in the starting lineup, Mexico beat the U.S. in the final, 2-1, to capture the championship. Vargas is one of three Mexican Under-20 National Team players on the Bruin squad, along with sophomores Bridgette Marin-Valencia and America Frias, who each played with Mexico at the 2022 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. Also playing in that 2022 Under-20 World Cup were Reale, Purcell and Oke. Vargas, Marin-Valencia and Frias are back with the Bruins after missing the Colorado game while at training camp with Mexico's U-20 squad. Freshman Maya Leoni was out the last two weeks at Colombia's U-17 national team camp in Bogotá.
