LOS ANGELES – Senior goalkeeper Garret Griggs of UCLA Men's Water Polo has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for the week of Oct. 9-15.
Griggs helped lead top-ranked UCLA to a 1-0 record this past week to remain undefeated on the year at 18-0 overall and 4-0 in the MPSF West with an impressive 11-2 home victory over No. 4 USC on Saturday, Oct. 14. The Bruins and Griggs held the Trojans to two goals, the fewest in the series since a 9-1 win in 1973 (160 games). Additionally, it was UCLA's largest margin of victory in the series since a 19-8 win in 1976 (151 games). Griggs had his third-consecutive double-digit save effort, registering 13 stops while tallying a team-high three steals. He stopped 86.7 percent of USC's shots (including all four Trojan power plays) and the UCLA team defense stopped 92.3 percent of the Trojans' attempts (2-for-26 shooting).
