Betts Selected to Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award Preseason Top 20
October 20, 2023 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Lauren Betts has been named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award preseason watchlist, the Basketball Hall of Fame announced Friday. The honor is awarded to the top center in women's NCAA Division I college basketball each year.
Betts joins the Bruins after spending her freshman campaign at Stanford, where she averaged 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and nearly one block in just 9.7 minutes per game. The 6-foot-7 center shot a team-high 60.2 percent from the field during her lone season with The Cardinal. Betts comes into the 2023-24 season as preseason All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, receiving three-or-more votes for All-Conference honors from members of the media.
She spent part of her summer with Team USA at the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, earning a silver medal in the July event. Betts recorded double-doubles in five of her seven games played, averaging 11.4 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest.
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, for the Lisa Leslie Award in each of the three rounds starting Friday, October 20. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the 2024 Lisa Leslie Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February to just five. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Leslie and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.
