Turner Records Hat Trick in Senior Day Win over Oregon

October 08, 2023 | Women's Soccer

LOS ANGELES โ€“ Senior Reilyn Turner recorded her third career hat trick as No. 5 UCLA shut out Oregon, 4-0, on Senior Day. The Bruins dominated the game, outshooting the Ducks, 33-1.

Turner got the Bruins on the board in the 16th minute, heading in Ally Lemos' perfectly-placed corner kick. Her second goal of the game, just one minute into the second half, was also scored via header, from 10 yards out, off a long, lofting pass from Val Vargas. Turner completed the hat trick in the 62nd minute, scoring from nearly the same spot as her second goal. Lexi Wright started the play with a takeaway and made a nice run down the left side before sending the ball into the box for a sliding Turner, who finished for her fourth goal of the weekend, seventh goal of the season and 39th of her career.

"Today was really good for Rei," said UCLA head coach Margueritte Aozasa. "She has created so many goals for us this year, and sometimes she doesn't get credit for it because it's one or two passes later, so it's really great for her to get on the stat sheet and get those goals, and hopefully that helps her continue to build her confidence." Emma Egizii scored UCLA's other goal in the 23rd minute, using her impeccable ball skill to get free and fire a right-footed shot from 25 yards out. Oregon goalkeeper Maddy Goldberg got both hands on it to pop it up but didn't get enough on the stop to pop it over the goal, as it bounced back down into the goal to give UCLA a 2-0 lead. UCLA (11-1, 5-0) controlled play the entire game, totaling a season-high 33 shots while allowing a season-low one shot. The Bruin defense has not allowed a shot on goal in 250 consecutive minutes. Neeku Purcell and Kelly McManus shared the shutout, UCLA's eighth this year. Oregon remains winless on the year at 0-11-2, 0-5-0 in conference play.

For the second consecutive game, UCLA used its entire bench, with all 22 players seeing double digit minutes, including 10 seniors.

UCLA will next host Utah on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6pm.
