Sarkos Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

October 09, 2023 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – UCLA graduate forward Jack Sarkos has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for Oct. 2-8, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Sarkos helped the Bruins to an unbeaten road trip to the Pacific Northwest Pac-12 schools, totaling one goal and two assists for four points over two games.

He figured in the scoring of both of UCLA's goals at Oregon State on Thursday, helping the Bruins come back from a two-goal deficit to force a 2-2 draw in Corvallis. He scored the first goal himself in the 61st minute, then recorded the primary assist on Ryan Becher's 68th minute equalizer.

Sarkos also got on the scoresheet in UCLA's 4-2 win at No. 20 Washington on Sunday, notching the primary helper on the Bruins' final goal.

This marks the second Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for a UCLA player, as Becher picked up the award last Monday. This is the first time UCLA has taken home back-to-back weekly awards from the Pac-12 since Justin Garces and Milan Iloski did so on the first two Mondays of the 2019 campaign. It also marks the second weekly league honor in Sarkos's career after he was tabbed Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25, 2021 while at Lehigh.

For the season, Sarkos paces UCLA in both goals (8) and points (18). His eight goals are the most in a single season by a UCLA player since Iloski had 17 in 2019. The Margate City, N.J. native has notched a point in four of the last five games, and has been held without a point in just three of UCLA's 10 games to this point in the season.

The Bruins (5-2-3, 2-0-2 Pac-12) are at home for their next four games, starting on Saturday night at 6 p.m. PT against Loyola Marymount.
