November 14, 2023 | Women's Basketball, Bruin Athletics
LOS ANGELES โ Sophomore Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for the week of Nov. 6-12.
The center made an immediate impact on UCLA women's basketball during her first week with the Bruins. Betts is averaging a team-leading 18.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while claiming three-straight wins to open the 2023-24 season. The Centennial, Colo., native recorded career highs in points scored (20, vs. Purdue; 22, vs. Bellarmine) and rebounds (15, vs. UC Riverside) while collecting consecutive double-doubles on Thursday and Sunday. Betts had one double-double in 33 appearances at Stanford last year. She has started all three games for UCLA and is shooting a team-best .727 from the field (24-33 FG), which ranks fourth in the Pac-12; the sophomore has also blocked a team-high four shots in the first week of non-conference play. ย
ย
The women's basketball team was ranked third by the Associated Press on Monday, tying the previous program high (1978-79); the team has scored 295 points through its first three games and has six players averaging double-digit scoring.
