Betts Named Student-Athlete of the Week, Presented by Ready
November 21, 2023 | Women's Basketball, Bruin Athletics
LOS ANGELES – Sophomore Lauren Betts of UCLA Women's Basketball has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, for the week of Nov. 13-19.
Betts continued her hot start in a 1-0 week with the Bruins, recording her third-consecutive double-double in UCLA's win over Princeton. The center was a perfect 9-for-9 from the field and shot 4-for-4 from the free throw line to score 22 points – tying her previous career high – and grabbing 10 rebounds as the Bruins took down the Tigers, 77-74. Betts became the first Bruin since Michelle Greco to score 20+ points on 100% shooting; Greco scored 22 points on 7-for-7 FG on Feb. 19, 2000.
The Centennial, Colo., native is leading the UCLA in points (78 PTS, 19.5 PPG), rebounds (43 REB, 10.8 RPG) and shooting percentage (33-42, .786 FG%) through her first four games with the Bruins. The team is ranked second in the nation, according to the Associated Press, which marks its highest ranking in program history.
This is Betts' second-career UCLA student-athlete of the week award, and her second in a row.
