Jose Contell Tabbed Pac-12 Player of the Week

November 06, 2023 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – UCLA redshirt junior Jose Contell has been named the Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for October 30 to November 5, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Contell led the Bruins to their fifth straight week unbeaten in Pac-12 play, tallied five points on the weekend, and helped the Bruins clinch a share of their ninth Pac-12 title on Sunday. He helped lead the Bruins to a 1-1 draw at California before scoring twice and dishing out an additional assist in UCLA's win over No. 19 Stanford. The Valencia, Spain native earned an assist on the Bruins opening goal before firing home UCLA's second and third goals of the afternoon. For the season Contell has three goals and six assists to his name.

Contell becomes the first Bruin to take home the league's weekly honor since Jack Sarkos did so on October 9, 2023. It's the first time Contell has been tabbed player of the week.

After his five-point week, Contell ranks second on the squad in assists with six, and third on the team in goals scored with three. His 12 points (3G, 6A) are the third most on the team in 2023.

UCLA heads into the final weekend of Pac-12 play unbeaten (5-0-4) and are one of 13 teams who remain undefeated in conference play.

Contell and the rest of the Bruins close out the 2023 regular season on Friday at San Diego State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT from the SDSU Sports Deck.
