LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's golf program has received signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) from Trevor Garus and Baylor Larrabee, as announced on Wednesday by head coach Armen Kirakossian.

Garus was named the 2023 Idaho Player of the Year after winning the Idaho Golf Association (IGA) Men's State Amateur Championship in July by one stroke at 4-under with round scores of 73-70-69. Garus' victory came in clutch fashion, too, as he won on his final hole after teeing off the 18th one shot back of the lead. Three weeks prior, Garus won three of his four matches in the 2023 IGA Match Play Championship with margins of 5&4 and 8&7 in his first two matches before falling in the championship round.

From Boise, Idaho, Garus is a senior at Capital High School where has three-peated 5A District III titles, becoming the first Idahoan golfer to do so in 21 years. Most recently in September 2023, Garus shot 3-under on his final six holes at Purple Sage Golf Course to hoist his third consecutive district championship trophy. He recorded third-place finishes at the 5A state championship tournaments his junior and senior years in 2022 and 2023.

"I still remember the moment Trevor Garus got on our radar as a recruit," Kirakossian said. "He was playing the IMG Junior World Championships at Torrey Pines. On the 6th hole, Trevor hit a long iron close to the pin en route to a first-round lead. Our assistant coach at the time, Patrick Murphy, told me it might have been the best sounding shot he's ever heard. Trevor has a drive to improve and become the best player he can. He showed he is ready to play at the next level this summer qualifying for the 2023 U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills and advancing into match play. I am very thrilled to be announcing Trevor as a Bruin today."

Garus qualified for the 123rd U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club where he tied for 50th in stroke play to advance into the round of 64.

Representing Idaho at the 2023 Junior America's Cup at Red Hawk Golf Club in August, Garus tied for second at 10-under with round scores of 71-65-67.

Garus was tabbed 59th in the latest ROLEX American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rankings. He competed in seven events in 2023 and posted three top 5 finishes, including a t-3rd spot at the Imperial Junior Classic at Big Sky with round scores of 66-73-67.

Also hailing from the Northwestern United States is Larrabee from Ferndale, Washington. Larrabee was named Washington Junior Golf Association (WJGA) Player of the Year and Boys Player of the Year in 2023 after winning three titles at the Hogan Cup, Western Open and Player's Open. He won his title at the Hogan Cup by one stroke thanks to an 8-under 63 in the first round. At the WGJA Western Open in May, Larrabee tallied two under-par scores of 71 and 69. Larrabee earned his first WGJA title of the year at the Player's Open in April behind a 6-under 64 in round one and even par 70 in round two.

"Growing up in the northwest myself, I naturally keep an eye on the results up there and Baylor's name kept popping up at the top of the leaderboards," Kirakossian said. "From small town Ferndale, Wash., it was clear Baylor had a knack for winning. He also has an ability to go low, shooting an opening-round 63 at this year's Hogan Cup which propelled him to victory. Watching him compete you can see why he will be successful in college and beyond. Coming from a competitive basketball family, Baylor understands teams and that will be a big asset with his transition to college golf. He has a humble, hungry attitude and I am very excited to welcome him to Westwood."

As a senior at Ferndale High School this season, Larrabee won the Washington 3A state individual title after shooting a 142 (71-71) and besting the next closest golfer by three strokes. He was the only competitor to finish under par at the championship. Larrabee's title came after he finished fourth at the same event a year ago.

Larrabee qualified for the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur at The Country Club of North Carolina with a score of 1-over 73 at Port Ludlow Golf Course in Washington.
