Silva Named First Team Academic All-American

December 19, 2023 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – UCLA senior defender Tommy Silva has been named a First Team Division I Academic All-American, it was announced by College Sports Communicators on Tuesday morning. This is the second time Silva has earned First Team Academic All-American honors.

Silva, a communications major, becomes the first Bruin to earn First Team Academic All-America honors twice since Joe Sofia did in 2012 and 2013. Among 11 First Team selections, Silva was one of just five with an unblemished 4.0 GPA.

While this marks Silva's second national academic honor, he has been a highly decorated student since arriving in Westwood. Silva earned Pac-12 men's soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in 2023, has twice been named as the men's soccer representative on the UCLA All-Academic teams, an honor given to the student-athlete in each program with the highest cumulative GPA, and has made the UCLA Director's Honor Roll in every quarter he's been enrolled at UCLA.

On the field, Silva was an All-Pac-12 Second Team selection for the third time in 2023 after recording eight assists and helping lead the Bruins to the Pac-12 title for the first time since 2012. His eight helpers led the Bruins, and were tied for second in the league.

For his career, Silva has started 68 of the 69 games he has played in. Over those 69 appearances, Silva has scored nine times and added an additional 23 assists.
