Bruins Fall at No. 3 Stanford, 66-71

Stanford, Calif. – UCLA Women's Basketball (21-7, 10-6 Pac-12) dropped its Big Monday matchup against No. 3 Stanford (26-3, 14-2 Pac-12) at Maples Pavilion. The Bruins fought The Cardinal until the final buzzer sounded, but fell short with the 66-71 result.
Londynn Jones led the Bruins in scoring for the second-consecutive game. The freshman tallied 12 of her team-high 14 points in the first half. Three more Bruins got into double figures in the game: Charisma Osborne (11), Kiki Rice (11) and Lina Sontag (10).
The Bruins were plus-10 on the offensive boards, outrebounding Stanford 17-7 on the offensive glass. Osborne had a game-high seven rebounds, leading on the boards for her second-straight outing.
Osborne tallied a career-high six steals in the game; four additional Bruins grabbed a steal or more in the effort as UCLA swiped it away from Stanford 11 times.
The Bruins got off to a slow start, trailing 11-19 after the first period of play. UCLA shot 5-for-17 in the quarter (1-for-7 3FG). UCLA went on to shoot 25% from the field in the second as Stanford's lead grew to 13. The Bruins trailed 39-26 at half.
Osborne opened the second half with an 8-0 run in the first 1:05, bringing the Bruins back within five points.
UCLA took this momentum and ran, outscoring Stanford 25-11 in the third. Sontag and Camryn Brown combined for a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the period, putting up nine points in UCLA's best offensive quarter of the game. UCLA led 51-50 with 10 minutes remaining.
The fourth quarter was a fight, with five lead changes and three ties in the period. The Bruins battled back and forth for eight minutes until Sontag hit a corner three to put UCLA up 65-64. Stanford answered, though, closing the game on a 7-1 run in the final two minutes of play.
