LOS ANGELES โ College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) has announced that four members of the UCLA swimming and dive program โ senior Hannah Butler, senior Gabby Dang, sophomore Zoe Jespersgaard, and sophomore Paige MacEachern โ have been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District Team.
Academic All-District honorees automatically advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Winners will be announced in late march.
Voting for Academic All-America women's swimming & diving teams run through Tuesday, Mar. 7 at 8:59 p.m. PT.
Butler, a biology major, has continued to be a standout on springboard as a senior, totaling four event wins and auto-qualifying for Zones in both 1-meter and 3-meter. She has the best score among Bruin divers this year in 1M (288.25) and the third-best score in 3M (314.85). She has qualified for the NCAA Championships in each of the three previous seasons.
A biochemistry major, Dang has had an exemplary season in the pool, qualifying for NCAAs for a third consecutive season in the 100 fly with a time of 51.85. She also helped set a school record in the 200 medley relay (1:36.64) at Pac-12s, swimming the butterfly leg of the race.
Jespersgaard, an applied linguistics major, has three event wins and three runner-up finishes so far this season. She will join Butler in both springboard championships at next week's Zone E Diving Championships. Her 330.90 in 3-meter in UCLA's dual meet against Arizona on Nov. 4 stands as the best score in that event by a Bruin this season, and she has the second-best scores on the team in both 1M (284.35) and platform (216.05).
A cognitive science major, MacEachern secured NCAA qualification in the 400 IM after notching the No. 11 time in the country (4:06.17) this season at Pac-12s. That time was also good for a school record. The team's reigning Rookie of the Year, this marks the second season in a row that MacEachern has qualified in the 400 IM. She also has a team-best time this year in the 200 fly (1:57.11) while posting the second-best clips in the 500 free (4:43.21) and 1650 free (16:24.56).
