Bruins Earn 163-80 Win over Nevada on Senior Day

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Swimming and Diving program earned a BLANK-BLANK win over Nevada on senior day at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins earned 10 event wins on the day.
To kick off senior day, UCLA honored its 10 senior student-athletes with a pre-meet ceremony, followed shortly by a win in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Claudia Yovanovich, Sarah Bennetts, Fay Lustria and Jada Duncan combined to touch the wall in 1:36.47 to take the win.
Applejean Gwinn earned UCLA's first individual event win of the day in the 1650 free. The freshman touched the wall in 16:53.67 to take the win. She was followed closely by senior Beril Bocekler, who took second place in 16:58.38.
As for the 200 free, senior Gizem Guvenc earned UCLA's third win of the day in 1:46.33. Yovanovich followed with another event win in the 50 free, taking the crown in 22.35.
Senior Rosie Murphy earned another win for the Bruins in the 200 IM. She finished in 1:56.22 to take the win, and was the only student-athlete to touch the wall in under 2:00.00.
Lustia led a Bruin sweep in the following event, the 100 butterfly. Lustria, Jose Arbuckle, and Alexis Schaffer took the top three spots, with Lustria leading the way in 53.65.
In the 100 free, Duncan earned her fourth event win of the weekend, touching the wall in 48.56, while Guvenc took second place in 49.10.
The Bruins notched another win in the second distance event of the day, the 500 free. Gwinn took her second win of the day in 4:49.31, while Bellio added a third-place finish in 4:52.57.
Bennetts earned UCLA its final individual event win in the 100 breast. She touched the wall in 1:00.47, and was followed closely by Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen in second place in 1:01.32.
The Bruin 200 free relay took the final event win in 1:29.86, marking the 10th event that the Bruins had won on Saturday afternoon.
Up Next: UCLA returns to action Feb. 18-21 at the Big Ten Championships. The meet will take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The meet will also be streamed live on B1G+.
