No. 22 Bruins Sit Seventh After Day Two of Big Ten Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. โ The No. 22-ranked UCLA Swimming and Diving program sits in seventh place after the second day of competition at the Big Ten Championships. On day two of the event, UCLA had six finalists in individual events.
UCLA is currently in seventh place with 255 points after eight events. Michigan leads the way with 517.50 points, while Indiana is in second with 398 points, and Ohio State is in third place with 390 points.
Day Two Recap
The Bruins had six individual event finalists on Thursday evening. Murphy highlighted the Bruin individuals on the day, as she took third place in the 400 IM. The senior earned her first individual event podium finish in the process, touching the wall in 4:04.08.
As for the relay event of the night, UCLA's 200 medley relay crew of Alexis Schaffer, Anna Wetteland, Claudia Yovanovich, and Jada Duncan set a new school record of 1:28.07 to place fifth in the event, and securing an NCAA'A' cut.
Jada Duncan and Sarah Bennetts also finished top-8 in their events. Duncan took sixth in the 100 butterfly, while Bennetts finished fifth in the 100 breast.
Molly Brascia took 11th in the 1-meter competition for the dive squad, totaling a finals score of 281.55. Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen finished second in the 'C' final of the 100 breast, to take 18th overall, while Fay Lustria finished in 13th in the 100 fly.
To begin the day, the Bruins had two athletes qualify for finals in the 100 butterfly. Freshman Jada Duncan, competing in her first Big Ten Championships, was the top qualifier for the Bruins, earning a spot in the 'A' final in 51.86.
Senior Fay Lustria also qualified for the 'B' final in the event, touching the wall in a tie for 14th in prelims in 52.81.
As for the 400 IM, senior Rosie Murphy earned a spot in the 'A' final as the second overall seed. She touched the wall in 4:06.21. Senior Ashley Kolessar finished in 27th in the event, while Applejean Gwinn took 30th overall in 4:17.52 and 4:19.62, respectively.
In the 200 free, three Bruins finished in the top 30, as Gizem Guvenc, Anna Wetteland, and Katrina Bellio took part.
The 100 breaststroke featured two Bruin finalists on Thursday. Junior Sarah Bennetts qualified for her first 'A' final, touching the wall in seventh in 59.99, while senior transfer Nikoline Biltoft-Jensen qualified 18th in 1:01.42 to earn a spot in the 'C' final.
As for the diving boards, junior Molly Brascia earned an 11th-place finish in the prelims with a score of 264.55 to advance her to the 'B' final.
