
Four Top 10 Marks Established in Outdoor Track & Field Home Opener

The Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational got off to a grand start Friday afternoon when UCLA sophomore Kris Emig won the men's hammer throw with a mark of 65.32m (214-3). Emig's final three throws all went over 65m, as he threw for 65.09m (213-6), then 65.19m (213-10) and finally 65.32m (214-3).
UCLA finished 1-2 in the women's hammer, with graduate student Mayyi Mahama recording a 65.97m (216-5), the No. 4 mark in school history. Sophomore Lyvante Su'emai finished in second place with a throw of 56.40m (185-0).

The Bruins also went 1-2 in the women's javelin, with Botter winning with her school record throw and fifth-year senior Lauren McFall placing second with a 44.08m (144-7). Botter threw over 50m four times in the competition, hitting 53.20m (174-7), 51.53m (169-0), 50.86m (166-10) and 50.35m (165-2).
In the distance carnival, UCLA had three women finish in the Top 10 of the 5000m. Sophomore Mia Kane placed second with a time of 16:35.10 in her first collegiate 5000m. Sophomores Audrey Allen and Anna Weirich recorded personal-best times, with Allen placing eighth with a 17:11.74 and Weirich placing 10th with a time of 17:32.99. Junior Jake Parker was the runner-up in the men's 5000m, recording a personal-best time of 14:23.78.
Six UCLA men finished in the Top 10, all with personal-best times. Junior Ronan McMahon-Staggs recorded the fastest 1500m time by a Bruin in 18 years and the fourth-fastest time in school history, a 3:41.07. Sophomore Ajani Salcido was close behind in third place with a 3:43.49, followed by senior Mason Ratkovich (4th place, 3:46.36) and junior Dylan Wilbur (5th place, 3:47.28). Juniors Andrew Martinez (9th place, 3:48.44) and Michael Mireles (10th place, 3:50.75) rounded out the Top 10.
