Bruins Capture Nine Events at Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA track and field team recorded nine victories on Saturday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, including a double by Natalie Ramirez in the discus and shot put.

Field Events
The Bruins took four of the first five placements in the men's discus to start Saturday's action, with Aidan Elbettar throwing 56.78m (186-3) to finish first, followed by Michael Pinckney, who threw 53.77m (176-5) to claim second place. Gabriel Katches was fourth with a throw of 51.70m (169-7), and Ugonna Ikejiofor placed fifth with a 50.18m (164-7). UCLA took the Top 3 spots in the women's discus, with Ramirez claiming the victory with a throw of 52.59m (172-6), Lyvante Su'emai placing second with a 50.53m (165-9), and Lydia Liu recording a mark of 46.45m (152-4).

Ramirez won her second event of the day, taking first in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 15.43m (50-7.5). On the men's side, UCLA had two of the Top 5 marks. Shortly after winning the discus, Elbettar earned a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.44m (57-2.75), and Pinckney placed fifth with a throw of 17.24m (56-6.75).

In the women's long jump, Sophia Hartwell jumped 5.76m (18-10.75) to place fourth, and Megan Ronan placed fifth with a mark of 5.68m (18-7.75). Jalyn Jackson had the men's top collegiate mark with a 7.35m (24-1.5), finishing second overall.

The Bruins earned three of the Top 6 marks in the women's high jump, led by Jordan Robinson's third-place mark of 1.65m (5-5). Amber Jackson finished fifth with a mark of 1.60m (5-3), and Cheyenne Roberts was sixth at 1.55m (5-1).

Hunter O'Brien closed the day with a win in the men's pole vault, clearing a personal-best 5.00m (16-4.75) on his first attempt at that height. On the women's side, UCLA had five of the Top 10 marks. Ka'Leila Abrille led the Bruins with a second-place showing after clearing 4.04m (13-3). Isabelle Grant, Allison Leigh, Eden Henderson, Samantha Serex and Mia Cervantes all cleared 3.59 (11-9.25), with Grant and Leigh tying for fifth, Henderson finishing seventh, Serex eighth and Cervantes 10th.

Track Events
UCLA was dominant in the men's and women's 400m. The Bruin men had six of the Top 8 times, including the Top 4. Cameron Reynolds won the event with a time of 45.90, followed by Myles Misener-Daley (46.04), Willington Wright (46.17) and Antonie Nortje (46.52). Samuel Herenton finished seventh in 47.82, and Chase Wells was eighth with a time of 48.21. On the women's side, the Bruins went 1-2-3, with Kate Jendrezak placing first (53.49), Alyssa Conyers taking second (53.58) and Naomi Johnson finishing third (54.44).

UCLA had three other Top 10 finishes, as Samantha McDowell placed fifth (2:11.50), Kaho Cichon finished eighth (2:12.78) and Ashley Johnson placed ninth (2:13.82). In the men's 800m, Ronan McMahon-Staggs was UCLA's top finisher in fourth place with a time of 1:50.33. Jai Dawson was sixth (1:50.50), and Dylan Wilbur was seventh (1:50.53).

The Bruins had a pair of winners in the 200m, as Naomi Johnson recorded a winning time of 23.87, and Wright posted a 21.08. Wright took the victory while running in the third flight, just edging out Ismail Turner, who ran 21.09 in the first flight. Misener-Daley finished third with a time of 21.19, and Kelley Stephens was fourth with a 21.28. John Robinson also placed in the Top 10, finishing ninth (21.56).

Two Bruins finished in the Top 5 in the women's 100m hurdles, as Jada Jones placed fourth (14.00) and Sonia Virk finished fifth (14.14). Two Bruin men finished in the Top 3 in the men's 110 hurdles, with Jadyn Marshall finishing second (14.43) and Liam Anderson third (14.44). Aiden Lieb also secured a Top 10 finish, placing seventh with a time of 14.68. In the 400m hurdles, Sharelle Samuel earned a fourth-place finish for the women with a time of 1:02.67, and Yan Vazquez (second, 51.80) and Shawn Toney (fourth, 54.46) grabbed Top 5 finishes for the men.

Four Bruins finished in the Top 6 of the women's 100m, led by Trinity Rossum, who placed third in a time of 11.92. Sophia Alexander was fourth (11.98), Maddy Doane fifth (12.00) and Jada Jones sixth (12.01). Three Bruins finished in the Top 7 in the men's 100m, led by Kaden Reynolds' fourth-place overall finish (10.61). Robinson was fifth (10.63), and Cristian Moore was seventh (10.67).

Christopher Chavez was UCLA's lone entry in the men's one-mile and finished second with a time of 4:26.95, and in the relays, the UCLA 4x100m squad of Kaden Reynolds, Stephens, Moore and Robinson.
