Woolery Powers No. 2 UCLA to 4-0 Victory Against Howard

LOS ANGELES โ Freshman Jordan Woolery went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the No. 2 UCLA softball team's 4-0 victory over Howard at Easton Stadium Tuesday night.

The Bruins' (23-1) offense sparked in the first inning with three runs, the first coming on a sacrifice fly to left field by Megan Grant. Woolery put an emphatic end to the scoring with a towering blast over the left field scoreboard for her third home run of the season.

Grant now leads all freshmen in the country with 27 runs batted in while Woolery is third on the team with 22.

One more freshman contributor tonight came in the form of right-handed pitcher Taylor Tinsley. The Lawrenceville, Ga. product struck out seven in 5.0 innings of work to earn her fourth win of the season. Tinsley allowed just three baserunners in her outing.
Woolery provided more offensive firepower in the bottom of the sixth with a leadoff double on the first pitch of her at-bat. The next at-bat, sophomore Jayla Castro singled to left center field for her first hit of the season, bringing home pinch runner Rylee Pinedo to extend the Bruins' lead to 4-0.

Kennedy Powell, Sharlize Palacios and Anna Vines each notched base hits tonight.

UCLA opens Pac-12 play this week in Berkeley at California's Levine-Fricke Field, beginning Friday at 2 p.m. (PT). Each game of the three-day series will be available for viewing on the Cal Live Stream.

Megan Faraimo entered in relief in the sixth and put forth two scoreless frames with four strikeouts to pick up her second save of the season.
