UCLA Rowing to Open Spring Season Versus USC

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA women's rowing program will open its spring racing season against crosstown rival USC on Saturday, March 11, at the Port of Los Angeles near San Pedro.

USC will serve as the host program for Saturday morning's dual meet.

The two schools will compete with five scheduled races, starting with the second varsity four (2V4+) at 9:30 a.m. UCLA and USC will race their third varsity eight crews (3V8+) at 9:45 a.m., followed by the varsity four boats (V4+) at 10 a.m.

The final two races of the morning will include the second varsity eight crews (2V8+) and the varsity eight boats (V8+).

This will mark the second consecutive season in which UCLA has opened its spring season with dual-meet regatta against USC. Last season, the Bruins took on USC in Marina del Rey on Sunday, March 13. UCLA won the varsity eight race, while USC took first place in the second varsity eight, the varsity four and the third varsity eight races.

Saturday's races will mark the Bruins' first competition of the spring and the program's only races before heading to San Diego during the first weekend of April for the annual San Diego Crew Classic (on Mission Bay).

The 2023 season will mark UCLA's second rowing campaign under the direction of head coach Previn Chandraratna. The Bruins' head coach has entered his eighth year on the UCLA rowing coaching staff in 2023.

About the Port of Los Angeles
USC's rowing program competes at the Port of Los Angeles, just west of Long Beach and about 20 minutes south of USC's campus in Los Angeles.

Directions: Take the 110 south, and drive approximately 17 miles and pass the 105 and 405 freeways. Exit at Harry Bridges (1 mile), turn right on Avalon (0.4 miles), then turn left on Water Street (0.2 miles). Turn right on Yacht Street (500 feet). The USC Boathouse is located along the left after passing the fire station.
