Faraimo Shines on Senior Day; Bruins Beat Sun Devils, 4-1

LOS ANGELES โ Redshirt senior Megan Faraimo struck out 12 batters in a complete-game effort to lead the No. 2 UCLA softball team to a 4-1 victory over Arizona State on Senior Day at Easton Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Faraimo was masterful, allowing only three hits, three walks and one run in her 10th complete game and NCAA-leading 24th win of the season. With today's performance, Faraimo matches her season-high in wins that was set in her 2022 campaign.

The Bruins (43-4, 18-3) have now won 16 games in a row after their 17-game winning streak to open the year. As a result of No. 15 Utah's loss to No. 9 Washington today, UCLA clinches a share of the Pac-12 Conference regular season title for its 17th total conference crown and 12th as a member of the Pac-12.

UCLA will be able to secure the Pac-12 regular season championship outright next week when it heads to Utah.

The bottom of the Bruins' lineup provided all the run support Faraimo would need in the second and fourth innings. A walk to Anna Vines and single smacked by catcher Alyssa Garcia into center field brought UCLA's No. 8 hitter Janelle Meoño to the plate. Meoño bounced a high chopper right over the head of the Sun Devils' third baseman to score the first run of the game. It was Meoño's second RBI of the season. The crafty slap-hitter finished the series 5-for-7 with three runs scored.

Meoño scored one of those runs in the fourth inning today as a result of a sacrifice bunt laid down by No. 9 hitter Kelli Godin toward third base. Arizona State's Savannah Price airmailed her throw to first which allowed Meoño and Godin, the two fastest players on the UCLA roster, to sprint around the bases. Meoño was able to score from first base on the play.

Godin came around to touch home plate one batter later on a Maya Brady single to left field.

Brady, who finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI, recorded her eighth game of the season with at least three hits. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Finalist boosts her Pac-12-leading batting average to an astronomical .449. She also ranks second in the conference in home runs (15) and runs batted in (53).

The five-tool Brady showed off her speed in the sixth when she beat out a hot shot hit towards the Sun Devil (21-20, 5-13) first baseman with two outs which allowed Meoño to score her second run of the game. Meoño has seen her batting average skyrocket over the last 10 games, going 9-for-19 at the plate across that span. Entering the Oregon State series two weeks ago, she was hitting .280 on the season. Now, Meoño's average sits at .333.

In the circle, Faraimo struck out two batters in each of her first five innings. Her 12 punchouts today marks the 37th double-digit strikeout performance of her career. She moves her season total to exactly 200 strikeouts which leads the conference. Faraimo is 32 strikeouts away from becoming the third player in UCLA history to record 1,000 K's in a career.

Faraimo's one run she surrendered was on a solo homer by Jordyn VanHook in the seventh inning.

UCLA will travel up the 405 Freeway on Tuesday, April 25 for a midweek game at CSUN's Matador Diamond. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. (PT) on ESPN+.
