May 31, 2023 | Softball

LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior pitcher Megan Faraimo was named a finalist for the Honda Award for Softball, the organization announced Wednesday.

Alabama's Montana Fouts and Tennessee's Kiki Milloy and Ashley Rogers were also named finalists.

The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics".  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup which will be presented during the live telecast of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network on June 26, at 5:30 p.m. (PT). UCLA has won the award a record 12 times. Most recently, Rachel Garcia (2017-21) three-peated in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

The softball finalists were selected by a panel of coaches and experts from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Honda Sport award winner for softball will be announced later this week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.

Faraimo, the back-to-back Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year in 2022 and 2023, finished her collegiate career with a 29-3 record, a 1.42 earned run average and 232 strikeouts over 172.0 innings her senior year. Her 29 wins ranked second in the NCAA. Faraimo also paced the Pac-12 in strikeouts for the second consecutive year and ranked second in the conference in earned run average.

Faraimo was named a USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 10 Finalist for the second time in her career in 2023. Earlier this season, she set a career-long scoreless inning streak of 35.2 innings as well as recorded a streak of 16 straight appearances with a victory.

The Oceanside, Calif. native cemented herself as one of the best players in UCLA history by becoming the fourth pitcher in program history to achieve 100 wins and third pitcher to reach 1,000 career strikeouts.

Faraimo finished her career ranked third on both UCLA's wins list (101) and strikeouts list (1,000).
