Bruins Within Striking Distance Heading into Southwestern Finale

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The UCLA men's golf team shot 3-under 281 in round two of the Southwestern Invitational at North Ranch Country Club on Tuesday to remain three strokes back of the lead at -7.
Ohio State is in first place at 10-under through 36 holes after shooting 11-under in round two. Three teams are in a tie for second at 8-under: Texas Tech, UNLV and Colorado.
UCLA started the second round on the 10th hole.
Freshman Luke Powell leads the Bruins' lineup in a tie for fifth at 6-under after shooting 2-under 69 in his second round. Powell recorded four birdies on the day, including two over his final seven holes. The Capistrano Valley High School product has now posted eight sub-70 scores over his first five collegiate tournaments.
Powell trails clubhouse leader Tucker Clark (-10) of Colorado by four strokes. Clark shot an 8-under 63 today.
Junior Omar Morales shot UCLA's lowest score of day two with a 3-under 68. Morales is -4 for the tournament and in a three-way tie for 12th. Morales put a bow on his day with a birdie on the par-4 ninth. On his uphill approach shot, Morales stuck it eight feet from the pin on the narrow top shelf of the green to secure the birdie opportunity. Any shot short of the plateau would have likely resulted in a two-putt.
Pablo Ereño joined Powell and Morales with a 1-under 70. Ereño is tied for 28th (+1).
Freshmen Luciano Conlan and Alex Papayoanou recorded scores of 3-over 74 and 4-over 75, respectively.
