Guy Genis Named MPSF / Molten Player of Week

Middle blockerย Guy Genisย was selected on Monday as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation / Molten Men's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week as the Bruins split a pair of matches last week against Big West Conference opponents UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
Genis hit .667 for the week with 16 kills (2.0 per set), an ace and 4.5 total blocks. He compiled season-highs of nine kills, seven block assists and 13.5 points while hitting .583 in a five-set loss to Santa Barbara. He added seven more kills, while hitting .778, to go with two blocks in a sweep at UC San Diego. This is the third career MPSF POW award for Genis who rates ninth in the nation in blocks per set average at 1.17.

The Bruins return to action with a pair of matches this week against another Big West Conference opponent in No. 7-ranked UC Irvine. The first meeting is in Irvine on Wednesday at 7 p.m in the Bren Center. The Anteaters will then come to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Friday at 7 p.m.

UCLA is ranked fifth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll released on Monday. UC Irvine, which swept a pair of matches at BYU over the weekend, is rated seventh on the latest list.
