
Contell, Nelson Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

LOS ANGELES – Jose Contell and Wyatt Nelson of the UCLA men's soccer team have been named Big Ten Men's Soccer offensive player of the week and goalkeeper of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Contell led the Bruins to a 2-1 win over No. 2 Ohio State on Friday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The redshirt senior from Valencia, Spain tallied the game-winning goal for the Bruins in the 71st minute of the game, putting UCLA up 2-1 with his third goal of the season. Contell finished the game with a goal from three shots with one coming on frame. Contell has now tallied two goals and an assist in his last two appearances for the Bruins.
This is the second career conference weekly award for Contell and his first Big Ten honors.
Sophomore Wyatt Nelson played the full 90 minutes in goal and helped lead the Bruins to a 2-1 win over No. 2 Ohio State on Friday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. The Seattle, Washington native made three crucial stops for the Bruins, including a point-blank save in the 83rd minute off a corner to keep UCLA in front in the game.
This is the first conference weekly award of Nelson's career.
Up Next: UCLA heads to the east coast for their final away trip of the regular season. The Bruins will play at Rutgers on Friday evening at 4 p.m. PT, and then at No. 7 Maryland on Monday at 4 p.m. PT.
