November 11, 2024 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – Four members of the UCLA women's tennis team qualified for the NCAA Championships singles and doubles tournaments with strong ITA West Sectional performances on USC's campus.
The big winner of the week was Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer, who collected the singles title. She beat teammates Elise Wagle and Kate Fakih in her final two matches, respectively. All three earned their NCAA singles spots by reaching the semifinals.
Fakih and fellow freshman Olivia Center also teamed to win a championship, taking the doubles top prize to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships. The event, taking place in the fall as part of a two-year pilot program, runs No. 19-24 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
Lutkemeyer and Ahmani Guichard also prevailed in the doubles consolation draw, beating a pair of nationally-ranked tandems – including No. 17 Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs of Washington in the last match.
No. 83 Lutkemeyer beat four nationally-ranked foes – No. 106 Berta Passola Folch of California, No. 124 Sara Svetac of Arizona State, No. 36 Grace Piper of USC and No. 97 Wagle – en route to the singles final. Wagle downed the tournament's top seed, No. 89 Kailey Evans of San Diego – in the second round.
