November 29, 2024 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's basketball program, in conjunction with JMI Sports and the Men of Westwood, has launched a series of "Behind the Bruins" podcasts for the 2024-25 season.
Now in his ninth season as the Bruins' radio play-by-play broadcaster, Josh Lewin will navigate a season-long collection of podcast interviews with every coach and student-athlete on the men's basketball team. "Behind the Bruins" launched earlier this month and already has a collection of six podcast episodes that provides fans with a glimpse of the team's assistant coaches.
Lewin is joined by Bruins' radio analyst Tracy Murray in several monthly review or preview episodes. Murray, who excelled on UCLA's basketball team from 1990-92 prior to a 12-year NBA career, is now in his 16th season as an analyst on the Bruins' radio broadcast team.
Additional podcast episodes will follow with one-on-one interviews with all 17 players on this year's men's basketball team, in addition to sixth-year head coach Mick Cronin.
"Behind the Bruins offers UCLA fans an inside look at this year's team," Lewin said. "Each of these young men competing in our basketball program have a story to tell, and it's our goal to provide a bridge between the Bruins and our fans. We want to provide UCLA's fans with a fun, informal and conversational feel through these season-long interviews. We've got the ball rolling with six episodes already, including interviews with all of the team's assistant coaches, and we're excited to keep this project moving along."
Outside of the season preview episode which kicked off during the first week of November, podcasts episode already online include one-on-one interviews with assistant coaches Darren Savino (listen), Rod Palmer (listen), Nate Georgeton (listen), Brendyn Taylor (listen) and Yogi Jovanovic (listen).
UCLA Athletics and JMI Sports announced an 11-year multimedia rights partnership on Sept. 5, 2024. The long-term agreement with the leading media rights and venue development company arrived at a pivotal moment, as UCLA has entered the Big Ten Conference, marking a new era of growth and opportunity for the Bruins.
The Bruins' broadcast duo of Josh Lewin and Tracy Murray calls each of UCLA's men's basketball games live on AM 570. On occasion, the UCLA's radio broadcasts shift to the radio network's sister station AM 1150 (KEIB), due to schedule conflicts with the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers. Fans can also listen to the Bruins audio broadcast live on the UCLA Bruins app or by visiting the audio broadcast website (link here).
The UCLA men's basketball program has opened its season with a 6-1 record and will begin its Big Ten schedule with a pair of early games next week – at home against Washington on Tuesday (Dec. 3), and at Oregon on Sunday, Dec. 8. Game time is 7:30 p.m. (PT) on Tuesday at Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom (purchase tickets here).
