No. 9 UCLA Takes Down Oregon, 74-55

February 18, 2024 | Women's Basketball

EUGENE, Ore. – UCLA Women's Basketball (20-5, 9-5 Pac-12) defeated the University of Oregon (11-16, 2-11 Pac-12) at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday.

Graduate guard Charisma Osborne achieved her third double-double of the season, recording 11 points and 12 rebounds in the blowout win over the Ducks. Osborne also had six assists and two steals in the victory.

The Bruins dominated Oregon on the offensive glass, outpacing the Ducks 19-7 in offensive rebounds. UCLA was +11 on the boards, winning the rebounding battle 48-37. UCLA also swiped 10 steals in the win; sophomore Londynn Jones accounted for four of those takeaways.

Four UCLA student-athletes got into double digits in Eugene; sophomore Lauren Betts led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Jones (15 PTS), Osborne (11 PTS) and Kiki Rice (10 PTS).

The Bruins assisted 20 of the 30 made baskets on Sunday.

UCLA got off to a red-hot start: Osborne nailed a corner three right after the Bruins secured the possession on opening tip.  Jones hit two-straight threes before missing one from distance; Betts had her sophomore teammate's back, grabbing the offensive board and put it back in. Oregon was forced to call an early timeout, with the Bruins leading 11-2 at the first stoppage. Osborne scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from distance in the first quarter; Bruins led 25-13 at the buzzer.

Betts and Gabriela Jaquez were working in the second quarter, combining for 10 of UCLA's 20 points in the period. Betts unleashed her signature spin move to bury Oregon's Phillipin Kyei under the basket.

Rice got on the board with a triple after Oregon's zone broke down; graduate student Camryn Brown flashed to the elbow and pulled two Ducks away for a wide-open look from the point guard. UCLA scored 10 points off nine Oregon turnovers and had 13 points second-chance points during the first half. UCLA led by 17 at the break.

The Blue and Gold cooled off to start the third; the Bruins were 2-for-9 from the field at the first media timeout (4:39). UCLA held Oregon to 3-of-11 shooting during that time, limiting the damage dealt on the other end. Rice started to cook and get the Bruins going; the sophomore had seven points on 2-of-3 shooting, knocking down both of her free throws in the period.

UCLA led 62-40 at the end of the third.

Four Bruins got on the board in the final frame; only Angela Dugalic had more than one made basket in the fourth. UCLA continued to thwart any chance of a Duck comeback, holding onto a 19-point lead at the final buzzer.
