Osborne Leads Bruins to 78-58 Win at California

BERKELEY, Calif. – Charisma Osborne finished with 32 points to lead the No. 7 UCLA women's basketball team to a 78-58 win over California on Friday evening in a Pac-12 contest inside Haas Pavilion. The 20-point win was the Bruins' eighth win by 20 or more points of the season.
Osborne led all scorers with 32 points on the night, finishing 14-for-20 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc. Her 32-point performance marks the fifth time in her career that she has finished with 30 or more points in a game.
Other Bruins in double figures on Friday night included Londynn Jones with 18 points and Angela Dugalic with 12 points. Ugonne Onyiah led Cal with 21 points and six rebounds on the night.
UCLA (17-3, 6-3 Pac-12) came out of the gates strongly, going on an 18-9 run over the first nine minutes of the game, led by Osborne's 11 quick points. The graduate student opened the game hot, connecting on five of her first seven shots from the field to pace the Bruins early on.
Cal (13-9, 3-7 Pac-12) responded in turn with a 6-0 run over the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second to cut the Bruins' lead to three, 18-15. Osborne and Gabriela Jaquez stopped the Bears' run with two buckets to reestablish the Bruins' control midway through the second quarter.
Osborne continued to make buckets for the Bruins, scoring three times in four attempts to give the Bruins an 8-point advantage, 28-20, with 1:45 remaining in the first half.
After scoring 11 points in the first quarter, Osborne added 10 more in the second, giving her a new career-high in points in a single half with 21. The Moreno Valley, California native finished 9-of-13 from the field in the first half and made both of her free throw attempts, giving UCLA a 32-20 lead at halftime.
Osborne, who moved into third all-time in scoring in UCLA women's basketball history on Friday night, continued to score ways in the third quarter. The guard crossed the 30-point plateau and put the Bruins up a then game-high 19 when she drilled a mid-range basket to give UCLA a 51-32 cushion with 3:22 left in the third quarter.
The Bruins took a 53-38 lead to start the fourth quarter before Cal made a run of their own. After Dugalic sank a three to give UCLA a 56-41 lead, the Bears brought the game back to single digits with a 7-0 run and trailed 56-48 with 6:58 to go.
Osborne put a stop to Cal's run with a jumper to give her 32 points on the night. Jones then sank a 3-pointer and converted an and-one opportunity for 6 quick points, giving UCLA a 65-50 lead with 5:14 remaining.
Jones and Dugalic pushed the Bruins' advantage to a game-high 21 points, 73-52, with 3:23 left on the clock, when Jones buried another 3-pointer, and Dugalic added a layup off a fastbreak. The made 3-pointer for Jones was the 100th 3-pointer of her collegiate career.
The Bruins comfortably saw out the remaining three minutes, with Jones hitting her fourth 3-pointer of the night and Amanda Muse making two foul shots, earning UCLA the 78-58 win on Friday night.
