Bruins Record Six School Indoor All-Time Top-10 Marks on Day One of Split Squad Meets

February 09, 2024 | Track & Field

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA Track and Field team recorded six school Indoor All-Time Top-10 marks after completing day one of split squad competition at the Don Kirby Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Albuquerque Convention Center, the Boston College Eagle Elite Invitational, hosted by Boston College at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, Mass., and the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. at Dempsey Indoor on Friday evening.

Five marks were earned in the track events and one in a field event. Three of the six Indoor All-Time Top-10 marks were seen in the Boston College Eagle Elite Invitational.

After running a 2:03.93, senior Kate Jendrezak claimed the second-fastest all-time UCLA record in the women's indoor 800m while taking home bronze in the meet. Another record came on the men's side of the 800m. Graduate student Angus Harrington (1:47.86) placed second overall on the day and moved into the third spot on UCLA's Indoor All-Time Top-10 in the men's 800m.

Junior Aly Conyers also claimed a spot on the Indoor All-Time Top-10 list in the women's 400m. Running a 53.50, she slid into second all-time, surpassing Sheena Johnson's 53.63 completed in 2003. Conyers's time was also good enough for an overall fifth-place finish on the day.

The fourth all-time top-10 mark of the day came with junior Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck in the women's unseeded 200m race at the Don Kirby Invitational. Her 23.91 marks the eighth-fastest women's 200m indoor record in school history. She also earned a podium finish in the competition, placing third.

The fifth all-time top-10 mark of the day was earned by sophomore Hunter O'Brien in the men's pole vault also at the Don Kirby Invitational. His mark of 5.42m (17-09.25) landed him the seventh-best record in UCLA history in the men's indoor pole vault. He also finished seventh on the day in the competition.

The Bruins had podium finishes in the women's 800m, the men's 800m, the men's 400m, and the women's unseeded 200m.

The final top-10 update came from the Husky Classic; junior Mia Kane ran a 9:19.24 in the women's 3000m race to jump up to fourth all-time. She previously held the 10th-fastest mark in school history, running 9:32.52 last January (1/28/23).
