April 06, 2024 | Women's Rowing

GOLD RIVER, Calif. โ€“ The No. 20 UCLA women's rowing program won four races at the Lake Natoma Invitational on Saturday.

The Bruins competed in both the morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday and started the morning brightly, earning three race wins.

"It was a great experience to see some racing on what will be the Pac-12 course," head coach Previn ย Chandraratna said. "We certainly need to continue to develop more speed as we head into mid-season, but we have the time and the culture to do it."

UCLA's first win came in the second varsity eight race, with the crew winning their race in 6:48.70. Additionally, the Bruins third varsity eight boat took part in the second varsity eight race, and took third place, finishing in 6:58.60.

The Bruins varsity four and second varsity four started the day strongly as well. The top varsity four boat took first place in their heat in 7:35.80, earning the Bruins their second win of the day. As for the second varsity four group, they followed the first varsity four group's finish with their own first-place showing, taking the win in their race in 7:44.20 and earning the third win in five races for the Bruins in the morning session.

UCLA's varsity eight crew opened the day with a third-place finish, with a time of 6:38.10, while the third varsity eight boat also took third in their heat in 6:58.60.

Later in the afternoon session, the Bruins picked up another race win, bringing their total win tally to four.

The Bruins' second varsity four earned their second win of the day and UCLA's fourth of the invitational when they won their race in 8:03.10.

UCLA's second varsity eight also had a solid showing in the afternoon session, placing second in their race with a time of 7:08.20.
