UCLA Drops Series Finale at Oregon State, 1-0

CORVALLIS, Ore. โ The No. 12 UCLA softball team was shut out, 1-0, in the series finale versus Oregon State at Kelly Field Sunday afternoon.

The Bruins (22-9, 8-3 Pac-12) were limited to two hits in a complete-game effort by Beavers (16-21, 4-8 Pac-12) starting pitcher Logan Hulon. Hulon struck out five batters in her outing.

Oregon State scored the lone run of the game on five consecutive singles in the fourth inning off UCLA starter Taylor Tinsley. Beavers' center fielder Madison Simon dealt the last blow which was an RBI single up the middle. UCLA head coach Kelly Inouye-Perez optioned to Kaitlyn Terry out of the bullpen who picked up two quick outs, including a strikeout, to get out of the bases-loaded jam and prevent another scoring threat.

UCLA's first two batters of the game reached base by way of a Maya Brady walk and Jadelyn Allchin bunt single. Hulon proceeded to retire the next 12 batters she faced.

The Bruins' next best scoring opportunity came in the top of the fifth when Taylor Stephens led off the inning with a single into right field. Seneca Curo laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Stephens into scoring position, however Stephens rounded the bag at second base and was caught in a rundown for the second out.

The game-tying run reached second base in the sixth inning again on a sacrifice bunt by Allchin. But strikeouts to Sharlize Palacios and Megan Grant stymied the Bruins' rally.

With the loss, Tinsley's record now sits at 9-8.

UCLA returns home for four games at Easton Stadium next week, beginning with a Tuesday night contest versus Cal State Fullerton at 6 p.m. (PT). The game is available for viewing on the UCLA Livestream.
