May 06, 2024 | Softball
LOS ANGELES – Redshirt senior shortstop Maya Brady on the No. 7 UCLA softball team was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Brady now ranks second in program history with seven career Pac-12 Player of the Week awards. She moved out of a tie with UCLA Athletic Hall of Famer and current Associate Head Coach Lisa Fernandez. This marks Brady's third recognition of the season (others: March 11 and Feb. 26).
Last week, Brady went 9-for-13 (.692) at the plate and recorded 11 RBI, three home runs, eight runs scored and a .706 on-base percentage in UCLA's four games versus Arizona State and CSUN. Brady's heroics helped the Bruins (34-10, 17-4 Pac-12) clinch the Pac-12 Regular-Season Championship.
Brady recorded her 67th career home run in game two at Arizona State, pushing her into sole possession of second place on UCLA's all-time list. She homered again in her next at-bat of game two, marking the ninth multi-homer game of her career and third of the season. The nine multi-homer games are tied for second most in UCLA history.
Brady capped the weekend with a career-high tying four hits in a 4-for-4, three-RBI performance (HR, 2B) in game three against the Sun Devils. The four hits and eight total bases were also a season high. Brady's season average shot up 30 points from .380 at the beginning of the week to .410. Her dominant weekend also gave her the Pac-12 RBI Crown (58) and put her in a tie for the Pac-12 Home Run Crown (15).
Brady and the Bruins play next in the Pac-12 Softball Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday, May 9 at Smith Family Stadium in Stanford, Calif. UCLA will play the winner of Arizona State-Oregon State.
