Chiles Second After Olympic Trials Day One

Jordan Chiles sits in second place after the first day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Minneapolis, Minn. Chiles, a member of the 2020 Olympic team, scored a season-high 56.400, trailing only Simone Biles, who scored 58.900.

Chiles was in the Top 3 the entire meet, beginning her meet with a 14.350 on uneven bars, just a tenth of a point behind first-rotation leader Leanne Wong, who scored 14.450 on vault. Chiles' execution score of 8.35 on uneven bars ranked second amongst all competitors on the event.

In rotation two, Chiles had a save on her balance beam mount and was sure and steady the rest of her routine, scoring 13.625. Her two-event score of 27.975 kept her in third behind Wong (28.375) and Biles (28.075).

Chiles recorded the third-best floor exercise score of the night with a 14.100. She nearly stuck her full-twisting double layout and recorded an execution score of 8.2, again ranking second in the competition. She remained in third place with a three-event score of 42.075, behind 2016 Olympic all-around champion Biles, who moved into first with a 42.925, and 2020 Olympic all-around champion Sunisa Lee, who jumped up to second with a 42.325.

A 14.325 on vault in the last rotation elevated Chiles to second place, 0.375 ahead of Lee (56.025).

Competition concludes for the women on Sunday, June 30. The meet will be broadcast in its entirety on Peacock at 5pm PT and will be joined in progress on NBC beginning at 5:30pm PT. The women's Olympic team will be announced on Sunday after the meet.
