LOS ANGELES – UCLA junior infielder Cody Schrier was selected in the 13th round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft by the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, bringing UCLA's three-day total of draftees to three.
Schrier, who was taken with the No. 394 overall pick, joined teammates Luke Jewett (8th round, Colorado) and Duce Gourson (9th round, Pittsburgh) in the Bruins' 2024 draft class.
After this year, UCLA has now had 129 student-athletes drafted in 20 years under head coach John Savage. That figure includes 52 players selected inside the top 10 rounds.
Schrier served as the Bruins' primary shortstop from 2022-24, putting together a career slash line of .276/.363/.443 with 20 home runs and 84 RBIs over 135 games.
He burst onto the scene in his debut season in 2022, earning consensus Freshman All-America and All-Pac-12 honors after slashing .298/.383/.492 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs. The San Clemente, Calif. native was tabbed to the Golden Spikes Award Watch List in 2023, but saw his sophomore season cut short due to injury. Schrier was one of the Bruins' hottest hitters early on in 2024, hitting safely in seven straight to open the year and batting .452 for the month of February. He ended the year with a .242 batting average, five home runs, and 23 RBIs.
