No. 1 UCLA Blasts Three Homers to Roll Past Rutgers, 7-1
April 11, 2026 | Baseball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team blasted three home runs on Saturday, powering its way to a 7-1 win and a series victory over Rutgers at Bainton Field.
The Bruins (32-2, 17-0 Big Ten) extend their winning streak to 26 games which stands as the longest in program history and the longest active streak in Division I. UCLA also secures its sixth straight Big Ten series, remaining unbeaten in conference play.
Will Gasparino, Cashel Dugger, and Mulivai Levu each homered as part of two-hit afternoons, while Aidan Espinoza added a multi-hit performance of his own and chipped in an RBI from the designated hitter spot.
Eight of nine starters recorded hits, with Roch Cholowsky, Roman Martin, Payton Brennan, and Aiden Aguayo each contributing a knock to round out UCLA's balanced offensive effort.
Michael Barnett (6-0) delivered five innings of one-run ball, striking out a season-high seven batters to earn his sixth win of the year. The right-hander allowed just two hits and closed his outing by retiring nine straight Scarlet Knights.
Wylan Moss and Ian May handled the final four frames, each working two scoreless innings to lock down the win. The duo combined to allow only three hits, keeping Rutgers off the board the rest of the way.
UCLA struck first in the top of the first, using back-to-back singles from Cholowsky and Levu to ignite the rally. The Bruins loaded the bases with none out but came away with just one run on a Brennan groundout.
The Bruins manufactured another run in the second when Dugger and Espinoza strung together consecutive singles to set the table before Aguayo bunted the runners into scoring position. West capitalized on the opportunity by lifting a sacrifice fly to center to double the UCLA lead.
UCLA broke the game open in the fifth, as Gasparino and Dugger launched back-to-back home runs to cap a three-run inning. Martin set the table with a leadoff double into the left-center gap, and Gasparino followed by unloading a no-doubt two-run shot to left. Dugger kept the surge going, turning on a breaking ball and sending a solo homer out to right.
UCLA added another run in the seventh after Brennan dropped down a bunt single and Gasparino and Dugger worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. Espinoza lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home a run, but a 5-4-3 double play ended the rally.
Levu jumped on a hanging breaker and launched a solo shot into the trees in right, stretching UCLA's lead to six in the top of the eighth.
The Bruins return to Bainton Field tomorrow for the series finale at 9 a.m. PT. Live coverage will be available on B1G+.
