Ethan Champlin and Pablo Ereño of the UCLA men's volleyball and men's golf teams have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's Division I Academic All-America® At-Large Team. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Champlin was voted by the CSC membership to the second team after helping lead UCLA to the 2024 NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship, while Ereño earned a spot on the third team.
Senior Ethan Champlin, a business economics major from Oceanside, Calif., was an At-Large All-American last season as well, earning a spot on the third team in 2023. In 2024 Champlin was a first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American and All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) selection this season, both for the second year in a row. The outside hitter was also named to the MPSF All-Academic Team. Champlin, who was a finalist for the Karch Kiraly Award once again in 2024, produced a team-high 16 double-digit kill matches with a season-high 19 kills in the NCAA semifinals against UC Irvine. Champlin was also named Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Championship Tournament after hitting .376 with 42 kills in the three matches.
Junior Pablo Ereño was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and GCAA West All-Region for the first time in his career in 2023-24. This marks Ereño's second Academic All-District recognition. The mathematics/economics major posted a 70.78 scoring average this season, which is good for fifth-best in UCLA single-season history. Ereño ranked second on the squad with six top-10 finishes, eight top 20s, 22 rounds under par and 15 rounds in the 60s. The Spaniard excelled in the Spring 2024 portion of the schedule, posting top 10s in five of the last six tournaments of the season.
Ereño is the second CSC Academic All-American in UCLA men's golf history, joining current PGA TOUR veteran Patrick Cantlay who earned the honor in 2011-12.
