Bruins Jordan Chiles and Emma Malabuyo had strong performances in the Olympic qualification round on Sunday, July 28 at Bercy Arena in Paris.

Chiles recorded the third-highest floor exercise score in qualifying with a 13.866 to advance to the floor exercise final on Aug. 5. She also recorded the fourth-highest all-around score with a 56.065, helping the U.S. post the No. 1 qualifying mark of 172.296. The U.S. will compete in the Team Final on Tuesday, July 30 at 9:15am PT. Although Chiles' all-around score was enough to qualify her to the all-around finals, the two-per-country rule will not allow her to compete, as she finished behind teammates and the last two Olympic all-around champions, Simone Biles (59.566) and Suni Lee (56.132). Chiles finished just .067 behind Lee. Chiles did, however, qualify for the floor exercise final on Aug. 5, scoring 13.866 to finish third.

Chiles set the tone early, kicking off the competition with a strong leadoff balance beam routine that scores 13.600. She followed that with her Beyonce-inspired floor exercise routine that netted 13.866. On vault, Chiles scored 14.333 on her first vault, a Yurchenko double full. She competed a second vault that scored 14.100 to average 14.216, which was good for fourth place. However, she was once again bumped out of qualifying due to the two-per-country rule, as she finished behind Biles and Jade Carey. Chiles finished her day on uneven bars and scored 14.266. She had Top 15 marks on every event.

Rising senior Emma Malabuyo hit her four routines in the all-around qualification and finished 41st with a score of 51.099. Her score exceeded her bronze medal-winning all-around total at the Asian Championships by seven-tenths of a point. She began her meet on balance beam and scored 12.233, saving a fall on a standing Arabian. On floor exercise, performing a modified version of her 2023 UCLA routine set to Paula Abdul music, she upgraded her opening tumbling pass to a double layout and finished with a score of 13.100, which earned her a Top 25 finish in the qualifying round. After scoring 13.266 on a Yurchenko full vault, Malabuyo concluded her competition with a 12.500 on uneven bars, punctuating her Olympic competition with a stuck dismount. Malabuyo and her Philippines teammates Aleah Finnegan and Levi Jung Ruivivar became the first Filipina gymnasts to compete in the Olympics in 60 years.
