August 01, 2024 | Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer
LOS ANGELES – For the seventh year in a row, both the UCLA men's and women's soccer programs have earned College Team Academic Awards from United Soccer coaches, it was announced on Thursday.
UCLA was one of 102 schools, across all NCAA divisions, to have both their men's and women's teams recognized for the 2023-24 season.
The Bruin women have now earned the award in 13 consecutive seasons after posting a collective 3.44 GPA in 2023-24. It was also the fifth year in a row that the women recorded a team GPA north of 3.25. Additionally, 17 players were named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll in 2023.
The Bruin men meanwhile posted a 3.33 GPA during the 2023-24 school year, earning the team academic award for a seventh straight year. UCLA has qualified for the award every year under sixth-year head coach Ryan Jorden. Nine UCLA men's soccer players were named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll last year, and Tommy Silva was a First Team Academic All-American for the second year in a row.
The United Soccer Coaches awards are designed to annually celebrate the academic achievements of teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. To qualify for the award, teams must post a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
The UCLA women open their 2024 campaign at Long Beach State on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7:00 pm PT, before taking on UC Riverside in the squads home-opener on Sunday, Aug. 18 at 2:00 pm PT.
The men are scheduled to open the regular season on the road at LMU on Aug. 22, before hosting James Madison at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Friday, Aug. 22 at 7:00 pm PT to open their home schedule.
