Johnson Earns Spot on Big Ten Men's Tennis Player to Watch List

ROSEMONT, Ill. โ UCLA's Spencer Johnson was named to the 2025 Big Ten Men's Tennis Players to Watch List Friday, the conference announced. The list featured one representative from each of the 14 member universities.
Johnson has already had a productive season en route to his current career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 13. He reached the NCAA singles tournament quarterfinal round in the fall, achieving All-America status for the first time in his career. To earn his first career berth in the national championships, Johnson won the ITA Southwest Championships singles crown. The sophomore has a 10-2 singles record that includes a 5-1 mark against nationally-ranked foes. He also has a 3-2 doubles record alongside Emon van Loben Sels.
In 2024, Johnson was honored as the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year after going 23-7 in singles play and 21-10 across his doubles contests. Both win totals were team highs. He also received All-Pac-12 First Team acclaim. Johnson posted a pair of match-clinching points, including a three-set result over No. 104 Daniel Milavsky to seal the Bruins' 4-3 win versus Harvard. Johnson went 6-2 opposite ranked singles players. He also teamed with van Loben Sels for 12 dual-match doubles wins, with five of them clinching opening points.
