Johnson Named Big Ten Player of the Week

ROSEMONT, Ill. โ Spencer Johnson of the UCLA men's tennis team was named Big Ten Player of the Week Wednesday, capping a week that saw the junior earn two NCAA Championships berths.
The junior went undefeated across singles and doubles matches at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Tempe, Ariz. He will make a return trip to the NCAA singles tournament and debut on the doubles side.
Johnson won five singles matches in four days en route to an all-Bruin final, which was not played. He earned a pair of ranked victories in the process, taking down No. 89 Alexander Rozin of Arizona in a three-set quarterfinal showdown before eliminating No. 124 Shu Matsuoka of Arizona State 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.
The Ladera Ranch, Calif. native also teamed with Emon van Loben Sels to put on a dominant display in doubles action, with the duo capping its five-match run with a 7-5, 6-1 result over Pepperdine's David Fix/Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida.
This is UCLA's first Big Ten men's tennis weekly award of 2025-26 and the second of Johnson's career. The Bruns collected seven weekly awards from the conference during the 2024-25 season, the program's first as a member.
