Solans Ormo, Marticorena Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

CHICAGO – Sergi Solans Ormo and Ander Marticorena have been named the Big Ten Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Redshirt Sophomore Solans Ormo tallied three goals in a 5-2 win over Rutgers on Friday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium, and also added an assist to total seven points on the night.
His three goals on the night mark the 28th time that a Bruin has scored at least three goals in a game, dating back to when individual statistics were first recorded in 1983. He becomes the first Bruin since Milan Iloski scored five goals in a win over San Diego State in 2019 to score at least three goals in a game.
Solans Ormo's first of three goals on the night came in the 39th minute, followed by two in quick succession in the second half. His second came at the 55:35 mark, and then he completed the hat trick one minute and 59 seconds later when he scored his third with 57:34 on the clock.
The Spaniard's seven points on the night are the 12th time a Bruin has tallied at least seven points in a single game.
On the year Solans Ormo leads the Bruins with 17 points (7 goals, 3 assists), and currently ranks tied for first in the Big Ten Conference in conference goals scored with six.
This is the first Big Ten weekly award for Solans Ormo.
Ander Marticorena recorded his first multi-game assist performance in UCLA's 5-2 win over Rutgers.
The freshman tallied an assist on UCLA's go-ahead goal in the 56th minute, as the Bruins took a 3-2 lead. He then recorded his second assist of the night on the Bruins' fourth goal of the night.
Marticorena now has three assists on the year, all in Big Ten play. He tallied his first career assist in the Bruins' 2-0 win over Penn State, before adding two more in the win over Rutgers.
On the year Marticorena has made 13 appearances, made 12 starts, tallied three assists, and played the full 90 minutes in six games.
This is the first Big Ten weekly award for Marticorena.
UCLA wraps up its nonconference schedule on Saturday, when the Bruins travel to Omaha. Kickoff is set for 11 am PT and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
