ORLANDO, Fla. – Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels of the UCLA men's tennis team collaborated Wednesday on a thrilling three-set victory as doubles play began at the 2025 NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championships. The marathon was contested under the lights as one of the day's final matches at the USTA National Campus.

Johnson/van Loben Sels defeated No. 90 Niels Ratiu/Chris Xu of North Carolina by a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0(8) score. The Bruins seized the final two points of the first-to-10 tiebreaker to cap the one-hour, 22-minute showdown. The win represents a first for each half of the UCLA pair in NCAA doubles action.

Next up for Johnson/van Loben Sels is a Thursday meeting with fourth-seeded Max Dahlin/Bjorn Swenson of Michigan at a time to be determined. Dahlin/Swenson took down Petro Kuzmenok/Santiago Navarro of Rice in a 6-2, 6-2 showing Wednesday. The winning tandem in the all-Big Ten Conference clash will earn All-America status as a quarterfinalist.

Tasked with taking down the tournament's top seed and ITA No. 1 pair of Petar Jovanovic/Benito Sanchez Martinez of Mississippi State, Bruins Rudy Quan and Aadarsh Tripathi were stopped short Wednesday in a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Quan/Tripathi finished its fall with a 5-2 record that included an unblemished run through the ITA West Sectional Championships in Seattle.
