No. 24 Women's Tennis Falls 4-1 at No. 12 Ohio State
March 28, 2025 | Women's Tennis
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 24th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 12 Ohio State in Big Ten Conference play Friday evening at Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Elise Wagle had a two-win day for the Bruins (7-7, 2-3 in Big Ten play). The Buckeyes (12-2, 6-1) narrowly earned the doubles point before Luciana Perry, Audrey Spencer and clincher Sydni Ratliff won their singles matches.
Two doubles pairs made their 2025 debuts for UCLA, with the combination of Ahmani Guichard and Kimmi Hance playing together for the first time in their careers. Wagle and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer reunited for the first time since the fall of 2023 and rolled in their reunion, beating Ratliff and Dani Schoenly 6-2 on Court 2. Ohio State pulled level on Court 3, where Spencer and Nao Nishino bested Guichard and Hance in a 6-4 result.
A top-15 matchup on the top court proved destined for a tiebreaker and determined the initial point. No. 15 Perry/Teah Chavez proved too much there, however, defeating No. 3 Olivia Center/Kate Fakih 7-6(0).
The Bruins seized two singles first sets. No. 29 Lutkemeyer was unable to capitalize on hers, as the top-court showdown with No. 35 Chavez was abandoned during a second-set tiebreaker.
No. 8 Perry doubled the Buckeye lead, posting a 6-4, 6-2 result over No. 78 Hance on Court 2. No. 96 Spencer soon after made the team score 3-0 when downed Center 6-2 6-4 on Court 6.
No. 64 Wagle trimmed her team's deficit to two with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against No. 122 Nishino. Wagle's win was her second in as many contests and fifth on the season versus a nationally-ranked foe.
In the end, No. 38 Fakih was also unable to force a third set. No. 111 Ratliff held her off in a 7-5, 6-3 showing on Court 3.
UCLA returns to action Sunday when it visits Penn State. First serve from Sarni Tennis Center is scheduled for 8 a.m. PT.
