No. 14 UCLA Secures Seventh Straight Win with 13-8 Victory Over Pepperdine

UCLA (23-5, 10-2 Big Ten) records its first seven-game win streak since the 2022 season and improves to 6-1 in midweek competitions.

The Bruins have now scored 10 or more runs in each of its last three contests. Eight of the nine starters recorded a hit in the impressive offensive display on Tuesday evening.

Dean West was extremely productive in the leadoff spot, scoring a career-high four runs in his 3-for-3 effort at the plate.ย

Roch Cholowsky and Mulivai Levu each homered to power UCLA's impressive 13-run showing. Cholowsky mashed his ninth big fly of the season while Levu maintained the team-high in the long ball category, ascending into double-digits with his 10thย home run.

Aidan Espinoza marked his first collegiate start with a two-RBI double in the third inning.ย

The Bruins wreaked havoc on the base paths with seven total stolen bases. West led the way with two.

Seven UCLA pitchers toed the rubber in the contest. CJ Bott registered his second win and Cal Randall impressed in his outing, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless ball.

In UCLA's first trip to the plate, Cholowsky ambushed a 1-0 fastball and smashed it over the wall in left-center field for a two-run homer. Cholowsky's ninth home run of the season scored West, who led off the inning with a sharp base hit up the middle.

Pepperdine (6-22) answered with two runs in the second, capitalizing on two defensive mishaps to tie the game.

The Bruins posted a seven spot in the third to break the game open. The rally began when Levu hit a three-run blast that snuck just inside the right-field foul pole. Grant Gray lifted a sacrifice fly to score Salgado who doubled earlier in the frame, then Espinoza ripped a double of his own over the right fielder's head to score two more. West capped the seven-run explosion with a solid single through the right side, scoring Espinoza.

The Waves got a run back in the fourth and added another in the sixth to cut the deficit to five.

West ignited some life back into the UCLA offense with his leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth. Levu promptly brought the leadoff hitter around to score when his grounder found its way through the drawn-in Pepperdine infield. Salgado followed with a productive at-bat, bringing Levu home on a sacrifice fly.

Levu did more damage in the eighth, delivering another sacrifice fly for his fifth RBI of the game. Salgado then beat out an infield single to plate another run for UCLA.

Pepperdine tacked on another run in the seventh and pushed three more across in the ninth, but the Bruins managed to hang on to notch their seventh straight win.

The Bruins will return to Jackie Robinson Stadium to host San Diego for a weekend series beginning on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. PT. The games will be available to watch on B1G+.
