Grant and Woolery Named USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists
April 30, 2025 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. โ Juniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery on the No. 6-ranked UCLA softball team were named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists, the organization announced Wednesday.
ย
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, recognizes the outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female players across the country.
ย
This marks the first time in Grant and Woolery's careers that the two Bay Area natives have been named as Finalists.
ย
Grant and Woolery make up one of the most lethal No. 3-4 hitting combos in the country, combining for 142 runs batted in and 42 home runs. Their 142 RBIs are lead all duos in the nation this season and are tied for fourth-most by a UCLA duo in single-season history. Woolery needs one more home run to join Megan Grant in the 20-homer club this season, which would mark just the second time in program history that two Bruins have each hit 20 homers in the same year.
ย
Grant went on a remarkable run in the month of April, receiving back-to-back NFCA National Player of the Week honors after slugging seven home runs, including three grand slams, and going 14-for-20 at the plate in an eight-game span. Grant's power stretch put her atop the nation's lead in home runs at one point. She currently ranks third in NCAA DI with 23 home runs and 72 runs batted in and second with a 1.056 slugging percentage. Impressively, Grant has only struck out five times in 168 plate appearances.
ย
Woolery has been a steady presence in the Bruins' (45-7, 16-3 Big Ten) lineup all season, ranking second on the team with a .421 batting average, 19 home runs and 70 RBIs. She enters week 13 in the top 10 nationally in home runs, RBIs and total bases.
ย
The Top 25 Finalists will be narrowed to 10 athletes on May 14, followed be the Top 3 Finalists set to be released on May 19. The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.
ย
Two Bruins have taken home the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award a total of three times. Rachel Garcia (2017-21) was honored in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019 and Stacey Nuveman (1997, 1999, 2001-02) won UCLA's first award in 2002.
