LAKE ELMO, Minn. — Freshman Michelle Xing opens her campaign for UCLA with a first round score of -2, 70 Monday at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Currently the 95th-ranked amateur in the world, she sits in a three-way tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Xing finished the final 10 holes of her opening round bogey-free, after her sole bogey of the round on the par-4 eighth. She is one of three Bruins to post three birdies in her first round, along with sophomore Kacey Ly (+3, 75) and junior Jen Lee (+8, 80).
UCLA (+8, 296) currently sits in eighth place in the 12-team field. Wake Forest is the clubhouse leader through the first 18 holes with a total of -8, 278. Of the three Big Ten conference opponents, the Bruins are ahead of Minnesota (+21, 309), and behind USC (E, 288) and Oregon (+3, 291).
Xing and Ly, along with junior Angela Liu (+3, 75) and senior Jennifer Seo (+4, 76) round out the counting scores for UCLA. Of the four counting scorers, the Bruins finished in a bogey-free, 5-under fashion in the final five holes of the first round.
UCLA will return to action tomorrow morning at the Royal Golf Club for the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Tee times to be announced later this evening.
