No. 3 Women’s Basketball Welcomes Purdue with Throwback Game Wednesday

LOS ANGELES – No. 3-ranked UCLA (17-1, 7-0 B1G) continues its two-game homestand hosting Purdue (10-8, 2-5 B1G) on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
 
The Bruins will don throwback jerseys on Wednesday, an homage to UCLA's 1977-78 AIAW Championship team.
 
Wednesday's game tip off at 7 p.m. PT on B1G+.

MATCHUP HISTORY: vs. Purdue Boilermakers
• UCLA holds a slight advantage, 3-2, in the all-time series with Purdue. UCLA is on a two-game win streak after downing the Boilermakers in both 2023-24 and 2024-25.
• The Bruins handed Purdue an 83-49 defeat on Jan. 7, 2025, in Indiana behind 17 points from Lauren Betts and 16 bench points from Timea Gardiner (6-8 FG, 4-5 3FG).
 
LAST TIME OUT: W, 97-67 vs. No. 12/11 Maryland (Jan. 18, 2026)
• The Bruins captured their seventh ranked win and seventh conference win against No. 12 Maryland on Sunday. The Bruins shot 62.5 percent from the field, 56.5 percent from 3-point range to take down the Terrapins.
• Senior Gabriela Jaquez led the way for UCLA, scoring 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Graduate guards Charlisse Leger-Walker (17 PTS) and Gianna Kneepkens (16 PTS) combined to shoot 8-for-15 from long distance.
• The Bruins had five players in double figures: Jaquez (22), Leger-Walker (17), Kneepkens (16), Dugalić (12) and L. Betts (11).
• UCLA led in rebounding 46-24, 11-2 in fast break points, and finished with nine blocks.
 
WHAT'S BRUIN
• UCLA opened the 2025-26 season ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25 Women's Basketball Poll, released Oct. 14. The Bruins had a number of top 15 matchups in November: No. 6 Oklahoma (Nov. 10), No. 11 North Carolina (Nov. 13), No. 4 Texas (Nov. 26) and No. 14 Tennessee (Nov. 30), finishing November 3-1 against ranked opponents.
• The Bruins began the year with six of their first eight games being played at neutral site locations. UCLA made the trip to Las Vegas twice in three weeks, first for the WBCA Challenge (Nov. 13-15) and second for the Players Era Women's Championship (Nov. 26-27). The Bruins went 3-1 in Sin City this November.
• The Big Ten boasts eight programs in the AP Top 25 for the week 11 poll: No. 3 UCLA, No. 7 Michigan, No. 10 Iowa, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 15 Maryland, No. 24 Nebraska and No. 25 Washington. Minnesota and USC received votes.
• UCLA won 23-straight games in 2024-25 - 22 were by a double-digit margin - setting the longest streak for both records in program history. UCLA's previous-best win streak came in the 1977-78 championship campaign (21 games).
• The Bruins boast 7 McDonald's All Americans on the roster: Lauren Betts, Sienna Betts, Angela Dugalić, Timea Gardiner, Gabriela Jaquez, Amanda Muse, and Kiki Rice. Jaquez and Rice shared co-MVP honors in the all-star game.
• UCLA was recognized as the USBWA National Team of the Week after going 3-0 from Nov. 10-15, which included victories over No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 11 North Carolina.
• UCLA has four players averaging double figures; the Bruin starting five totals 68.6 points per game. Six UCLA players have scored 20+ points in a game this season; the Bruins have had multiple 20+ point scorers in four games so far.
• The Bruins lead the Big Ten in FG% (.518), defensive FG% (.358 OPP FG%), assists (402 TOTAL, 22.3 APG) and assist/turnover ratio (1.73 A/TO) just across the midway point. UCLA is also first in the conference, second in the nation in rebounding margin (+15.9 RPG), and first in the B1G in scoring margin (+29.7).
• UCLA sits second in the NET rankings with a nation-best 10 Quad 1 wins (10-1).
