February 14, 2026 | Softball
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 6-ranked UCLA softball team dropped two contests to No. 3 Tennessee, 11-0, in five innings and No. 7 Florida State, 11-7, at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Complex on Saturday.
The Bruins (6-3) fell to 1-3 at the 2026 Clearwater Invitational. Senior Megan Grant reached base in five of her seven plate appearances on Saturday with three walks, one hit-by-pitch and a home run. Grant leads the team with a .735 on-base percentage through nine games while nine of her 11 hits have been home runs.
Game 1: Tennessee 11, UCLA 0 (5 inn.)
Freshman starting pitcher Natalie Cable held the Volunteers (9-0) scoreless through the first two innings before erupting for eight runs in the third. Tennessee's Elsa Morrison brought the first runs across on a two-RBI triple into left-center field. Taelyn Holley and Maddi Rutan hit back-to-back home runs later in the inning.
The Volunteers tacked their final three runs via the longball with another set of back-to-back jacks in the fourth inning by Emma Clarke and Alannah Leach.
UCLA's lone hit in the ballgame was a leadoff double from sophomore Kaniya Bragg to open the second inning. Volunteer Erin Nuwer pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout with four strikeouts to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Game 2: Florida State 11, UCLA 7
Grant opened the scoring in the night cap with a solo shot to center field in the first inning for her nation-leading ninth homer of the season. The Seminoles (8-1) answered quickly in the bottom half with hits in each of their first four plate appearances off Bruin starter Taylor Tinsley to take a 3-1 lead. They tacked on four more in the second inning off four extra-base hits, including a pair of two-run homers from shortstop Isa Torres and third baseman Jaysoni Beachum.
Florida State put up another crooked number with an additional four runs in the bottom of the third. A two-run double by Marin Heller and Beachum's second dinger of the day pushed the game into mercy-rule territory with an 11-2 Seminoles advantage.
UCLA put together its most productive offensive inning of the day with a four-run fourth that featured RBI base hits from freshman Jolyna Lamar and sophomore transfer Mia Phillips. Phillips notched her first hit and RBI as a Bruin with a double down the left field line to score Lamar from first base.
Aleena Garcia and Jordan Woolery also knocked in a run during the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly and an RBI on a fielder's choice, respectively.
Woolery logged her only base hit of the day later in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle that brought the score its final tally at 11-7.
