February 19, 2026 | Softball
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The No. 9-ranked UCLA softball team defeated Auburn, 23-1, in a historic offensive performance in its Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic opener at Big League Dream Sports Park Thursday night.
Playing in their 23rd Mary Nutter tournament, the Bruins (8-3) scored the fourth-most runs in a single game in program history with its tally of 23 against the Tigers (10-3). UCLA's lineup accounted for 16 hits, including nine for extra bases (3 HR, 1 3B, 5 2B), and seven walks. The bulk of the damage came in an 18-run third inning, which is tied for second-most in a single frame in NCAA Division I Softball history and is the most by a team since the 2021 season.
Analyzing the third inning, UCLA scored 14 of its 18 runs with two outs and hit around the order twice. The No. 2, 3 and 4 hitters in the Bruins' lineup – Megan Grant, Jordan Woolery and Kaniya Bragg – each had three plate appearances.
The 18 runs came via 10 hits, six walks and two errors. Redshirt junior Ramsey Suarez, who hit her first career triple in the second inning, secured the next two hardest legs of the cycle with a two-RBI double and three-run homer both in the third. Woolery recorded all six of her RBIs in the inning with a two-RBI double and her fourth career grand slam.
Looking at the individual performances, Suarez had a career night with nine total bases and seven RBIs in a 3-for-4 effort. Suarez's nine total bases are tied for seventh most by a Bruin in a single game. Woolery finished just behind Suarez with eight total bases as a result of her grand slam and two doubles. Freshman Bri Alejandre crossed home plate four times after reaching base via hit twice, one walk and an error. Alejandre's four runs are tied for third-most in a single game by a Bruin.
Four separate Bruins recorded three base hits in the win: Suarez, Woolery, Kaniya Bragg and Aleena Garcia.
In the circle, senior starting pitcher Taylor Tinsley struck out the first two batters she faced and proceeded to allow only three Tiger baserunners over her 3.0 innings. Tinsley notched her fifth win of the season while throwing just 49 pitches (34 strikes). Freshman Natalie Cable closed the game with 2.0 innings in relief. Cable struck out two and surrendered Auburn's only run: a solo homer by pinch hitter Delaney Aumua in the fifth inning.
Seven of UCLA's eight wins this season have been in mercy-rule fashion. This comes on the heels of setting the program record for most mercy-rule wins in a season with 28 in 2025.
