Four Bruins Named to All-Big Ten Gymnastics Teams
March 18, 2026 | Gymnastics
A total of four UCLA gymnasts earned All-Big Ten honors in 2026. The regular season Big Ten champions had three gymnasts placed on the first team – senior Jordan Chiles and freshmen Ashlee Sullivan and Tiana Sumanasekera – and senior Ciena Alipio on the second team.
UCLA was the only school with multiple All-Freshman Team honorees - Sullivan and Sumanasekera. Additionally, junior Katelyn Rosen was UCLA's honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Chiles (Houston, Texas) adds to her collection of conference awards, earning all-conference acclaim for the fourth year. She was an eight-time All-Pac-12 honoree in 2022 and 2023 and a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2025 and 2026. In the Big Ten, she won a conference record 10 Gymnast of the Week awards this season and has 16 in her career to rank second all-time in the conference after just two years. The two-time Olympian and three-time NCAA champion has competed in the all-around in every meet this season and has placed first in 10 of 11 meets, including nine in a row. She was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the all-around for most of the season and No. 1 in the conference all year and has also been ranked No. 1 in the nation on floor exercise for five consecutive weeks. Chiles has scored six perfect 10s this season, one each on vault and uneven bars and four in a row on floor from Jan. 25 through Feb. 14. Her season average is over 9.900 on every event – 9.948 on floor, 9.927 on vault, 9.925 on bars and 9.905 on beam – and her all-around average of 39.705 is best in the nation. Chiles has not scored below 9.800 on any routine this year and has 22 scores of 9.950 or higher; 34 of her 44 routines have scored 9.900 or above.
Sullivan (Richardson, Texas) has competed on three or more events in every UCLA meet this season and has hit all 35 of her routines, with highs of 9.975 on vault, 9.925 on bars and 9.950 on floor. She has four event victories on the year, as well as 15 Top 3 finishes, and is averaging over 9.850 on all three of her events - 9.857 on vault, 9.864 on bars and 9.880 on floor. Sullivan has been no stranger to the Big Ten weekly awards, winning three Freshman of the Week awards and one Event Specialist of the Week honor.
Sumanasekera (Pleasanton, Calif.) also has multiple Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards, winning a conference-best four this year. She is tied for the highest national all-around ranking among freshmen, ranking No. 22 with a NQS of 39.375 and also ranks No. 25 on beam. Sumanasekera has been superb for the Bruins this year, competing 41 of a possible 44 routines and going
all-around in eight of the team's 11 meets. She has season-bests of 9.9 or higher on every event - 9.950 on beam, 9.925 on floor and 9.900 on vault and bars – and a high of 39.475 in the all-around. In the season opener, Sumanasekera scored 9.950 on beam, the highest by a UCLA freshman in her collegiate debut in over 20 years, matching Tasha Schiwkert in 2005.
Alipio (San Jose, Calif.) receives her second-consecutive all-conference award. After competing exclusively on balance beam her first three seasons due to injuries, the senior has become a multi-event star, competing on floor exercise and uneven bars this season. She has become a mainstay in the lineup on those three events, competing in all 11 meets on beam, 10 times on floor and eight times on bars. She has career-highs of 10.0 on beam and 9.950 on bars and floor. Alipio currently ranks No. 4 in the nation on beam, where she has not scored lower than 9.900 all year.
Rosen (Boerne, Texas) has competed in nine meets this year, including four times in an all-around capacity. A valued leadoff performer on beam and floor, she has recorded season-highs of 9.900 on beam and 9.925 on floor. She also has a high of 9.875 on vault, averaging 9.844.
The All-Big Ten and All-Freshman teams were determined based on the national qualifying scores (NQS) accumulated by student-athletes during the 2026 season. The 12 Sportsmanship Award recipients, one from each conference institution, are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
