No. 16 Women's Tennis Beats Illinois 4-0 on Road

URBANA, Ill. โ The 16th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team fought off a late comeback effort to beat No. 57 Illinois 4-0 in Big Ten Conference play at Atkins Tennis Center. The match began UCLA's final regular-season road trip.
Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer clinched the win in three sets. Also victorious for the Bruins (12-6, 6-4 Big Ten) in singles play were Mayu Crossley and Kate Fakih. The Fighting Illini (9-11, 5-5) forced three third sets, but those matches were left unfinished.
UCLA's third doubles pair of Kayla Chung/Ahmani Guichard was dominant, blanking Lizzie Isyanov/Cara Mester. No. 35 Fakih/Olivia Center then locked up the initial point, topping Tess Bucher/Alice Xu 6-2 on Court 1. Center/Fakih has clinched a team-high five doubles points.
Five singles first sets went to the Bruins. No. 43 Crossley continued to shine on Court 2, taking down Kimiko Cooper 6-1, 6-2. Crossley has now won seven straight contests in straight sets.
Fakih, who had her two singles matches on the previous homestand left unfinished, made quick work of Ariel Madatali on Court 3. Fakih's 6-4, 6-1 triumph completed UCLA's lone two-win day.
In a top-50 matchup on Court 1, No. 17 Lutkemeyer rebounded from a lost first set to take down No. 47 McKenna Schaefbauer by a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 score. Lutkemeyer's fourth clincher of the year was her second three-setter. The first also came after she dropped the first set.
The Bruins next visit Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, ill., where they will face No. 56 Northwestern. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT.
